In this Silver Anniversary Season, join the Roxy Regional Theatre in celebrating the past while ushering in a new era as a Center for the Arts.
The silver screen came to the corner of First and Franklin in 1912 with the opening of The Lillian Theatre, soon joined by the nearby Capitol, the Elite, the Dixie, the Majestic, and the Star. The Lillian continued to bring first run movies to Clarksville until a 1945 fire closed its doors. In 1947, the Roxy Theatre rose like a phoenix from the ashes of the Lillian. The silver screen flickered once more. That run lasted until 1980 when its life as a film house ended.
In 1983, a new run began. Under the direction of John McDonald, Artistic Director, and Tom Thayer, Managing Director, the Roxy Theater re-opened its doors --- as a live theatre. Hidden talents were nurtured and revealed. New stars glittered and glowed on stage. For over a decade, young professionals and seasoned performers have shone brightly for audiences from around the world!
This season, celebrate with us to the tunes of Elvis and the cast of Grease, the words of Ibsen and the horrors of Oscar Wilde as we move forward with our plans where Painters, Sculptors, Dancers, Singers, and Actors will have a common building in which to practice and display their arts. We are committed to extending the arts to audiences that reflect this region in all its diversity. Whether for a single evening or a season of evenings, we hope that you will join us in celebrating our silver year as we reach toward a golden goal.
