A YEAR OF DREAMS
Clarksville’s Center for Arts and Education
Jaime Lee Kirchner (Broadway’s Rent and NBC’s Mercy), Michael Bradecich (Postal Service Spokesman), Margaret Eilertson (Tylenol National Commercial) Will Blum (Broadway and National Tour Grease) and Naomi Peters (Broadway’s Metamorphosis) and hundreds of young performers have “tread the boards” of the Roxy Regional Theatre, Clarksville’s oldest professional theatre, honing their craft while dreaming of reaching that star. By serving as a springboard for performers from around the country, producing a wide and eclectic season, and educating our youth, we continue to be one of Tennessee’s top tourist destinations.
This year, our 28th, Clarksville’s Center for Arts and Education will feature SHOUT! The Mod Musical, Frank Wildhorn’s DRACULA, AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS, THE CIVIL WAR: The Musical, ALMOST HEAVEN: The Music of John Denver, the holiday favorite A CHRISTMAS CAROL, William Shakespeare’s HAMLET, BEA(U)TIFUL IN THE EXTREME, as well as the musical blockbuster Rodgers and Hammerstein’s THE SOUND OF MUSIC.
Our 50-seat studio theatre (theotherspace) will play host to DOUBT: A PARABLE and the 9th annual VAGINA MONOLOGUES as well as other plays on the cutting edge.
As an educational tool, we bring live professional performances to more than 28,000 school students for daytime matinees. Traveling from Montgomery, Cheatham, Houston and Stewart counties as well as counties in Southern Kentucky, students are treated to American classics, Shakespeare and musicals, all equipped with study guides to enhance their literary knowledge.
The Roxy Regional Theatre’s School of the Arts adds an additional educational component by offering acting, singing and dance classes for young people. Many will have the opportunity to work alongside professionals in mainstage productions as well as performing in the musical hits Roger Miller’s BIG RIVER and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. During the summer months over 3,600 children pass through the doors, participating in a six-week drama camp culminating in an “Informance” of drama, dance and improvisation. For a choice few, internships are available for students wanting a hands-on education in playwriting as well as technical theatre.
For those who enjoy the visual arts, the Peg Harvill Gallery, located just beyond the lobby, hosts twelve shows featuring locally and nationally known artisans. Shows generally open the first Thursday of each month for our First Thursday Art Walk.
Mainstage productions, studio theatre workshops, classes in acting, singing and dancing, art exhibitions, special events, drama camps –all designed to help young performers attain their dream and all a part of the

We have begun a transformative step for the arts in Clarksville creating an opportunity to further anchor and broaden our commitment to serving this community by building a new center for the arts. This ‘green’ and ecologically-friendly state-of-the-art complex of distinctive design will generate a new enthusiasm not only for downtown Clarksville but for this entire region.
The complex will include a 500-seat auditorium with 250 seats on the main floor, 250 additional seats in the balcony, and no seat further from the stage than seven rows. In addition to the already hectic schedule in place, the theatre will be available for such events as the Fiddler’s Convention, pageants, concerts, dance programs, corporate meetings, touring productions, weddings and parties. The main floor will also include an art gallery and gift shop as well as a small brasserie. The second floor of the complex will include the Studio Theatre, as well as a dance/ rehearsal room and multi-purpose rooms that will be used by artists or musicians as teaching or rehearsal spaces.
